01 Valve’s Steam DeckDOC 001-2025
Design
Case Study: 001About:
Valve Corporation is a gaming company based in Bellevue, Washington. They are the owners of “Steam”, a digital content distribution channel for video games on PC.
This project aims to create a marketing asset's for a concept campaign, using a camera and photoshop.
Audience:
Mainly PC gamers, those who are looking to game on their desktop or laptop devices. With the introduction of their new product, the ‘Steam Deck’ (a handheld gaming device), they’re looking to attract new customers who may not have a PC and also existing customers of ‘Steam’.
Competitors:
The leading handheld companies:
Xbox, MSI, Nintendo, ASUS & Lenovo.
This project had 2 goals.
1. To create media campaign assets for the ‘Steam Deck’ using the existing aesthetic that Valve incorporates into their work.
2. To create a visually stunning and cohesive campaign
Process:
I photographed the Steam Deck using my camera, starting with shots on my desk mat that matched its theme. I then used an overhead soft light and removed any non essential things in the background in post for a clean look.
After selecting the best shots, I edited them in Adobe Photoshop, adjusting lighting and colours to match Valve’s press kit style. I added typography and included multiple angles, aiming for a visually striking and cohesive colour scheme.
Outcome:
I would say this project was a success, as I showed these designs off to those who own the product online, and the reception was amazing. I gained some friendly feedback and learnt a lot through this case study.
